Garry Pezzano joined LeadingAge PA, a senior services nonprofit, as president and CEO in 2022.

The team at LeadingAge, which provides education, advocacy, career development and other resources for the senior care industry, has made marked strides in breaking down barriers to quality care in Pennsylvania. This includes through LTSS Evolve, launched under Pezzano’s leadership in 2023 as a means to modernize the way care is delivered and regulated across the commonwealth.

In addition, the organization’s Innovations Committee was founded to bring together different players—including providers, researchers and payors—to create patient-centered solutions that work better for all.

“There’s a dramatic population shift occurring that can no longer be ignored,” said Pezzano, acknowledging the skyrocketing senior population in the U.S. “The older adult population is rapidly outnumbering the working-age population, leading to a three-fold crisis: funding, workforce and access to care. The biggest obstacle to evolving aging services is the reluctance of government, the public and innovators to trust the evidence and come together for real, sustainable solutions.”

That’s at the core of LeadingAge PA’s work, with Pezzano and his team fighting for essential funding at the state and federal levels.
