Medical Director of Interventional Psychiatry
Keystone Behavioral Health

Zeeshan Faruqui, MD, was appointed medical director of interventional psychiatry of Keystone Behavioral Health in 2018.

In addition to his wide-reaching duties for an organization serving roughly 63,000 patients across Chambersburg annually, Faruqui directs multiple clinics at Keystone, including the transcranial magnetic stimulation clinic and the intra-nasal Ketamine program for treatment-resistant depression, according to the organization.

“As a psychiatrist in rural Pennsylvania, I expect transportation barriers, unreliable broadband and financial strain to complicate care delivery,” Faruqui said about Keystone, which employs more than 600 doctors, other primary care providers, nurses and support staff. “Combined with stigma, professional isolation and regulatory pressures, these challenges increase burnout risk and require adaptability, teamwork and strong advocacy.”

These obstacles are not insurmountable for Faruqui, who celebrates “expanding access to reliable psychiatric care despite staffing and demand challenges.” He added, “By improving workflows, strengthening communication, and supporting telepsychiatry use, I helped create a more efficient, engaged team that delivered better patient continuity and stronger outcomes.”

Also, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Faruqui’s ongoing research and education seeks to expand the field moving forward.
