Armed with both a law degree and a doctorate in education policy, Leigh Dalton navigates myriad laws affecting public schools to advise school board members, central administration, building administration and classroom staff as a member of her firm’s School Law Group.
“Leigh works tirelessly on behalf of her clients and has a passion for helping those who need additional assistance,” says nominator Kim Trone, marketing director at Stock and Leader.
Dalton returned to Stock and Leader after serving as director of legal services for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and acting as chief of the Special Education Monitoring and Accountability Section at the Maryland State Department of Education.
“Dr. Dalton … approaches complex issues with one end in mind: to best support the student(s) and bring all parties together in a collaborative fashion,” says Karyn Brown, director of pupil services at Spring Grove Area School District.
Dalton also actively serves her community. Among other contributions, she is a senior warden at Saint Andrew’s of York and serves the United Way of York in various capacities.
She cites as her most significant achievement development of the York County Youth Court Alliance, which allows students charged with truancy to face a jury of student-peers instead of going to court.
