Dave Esh founded DavCo Advertising in 1974 in Kinzers after several years pursuing printing as a hobby, channeling a passion for helping businesses succeed into what has grown into a full-service provider of commercial printing, promotional products, decorated apparel, graphic design and mailing services. The company now employs 56 people and has operated for more than 50 years under continuous family ownership.

Esh, who was born into an Amish family and entered the workforce after completing eighth grade, built the business through strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn from experience.

His wife, Elsie, played a key role in the company’s early operations. Today four of Esh’s sons are involved in the business. Jerry serves as chief executive officer and oversees information technology, Rick is president and manages human resources, Don is vice president in charge of printing production, and Merle — who joined in 2003 after a career in roofing — serves as vice president of sales and marketing. Three of the brothers, Jerry, Rick and Don, hold ownership stakes in the company.

DavCo’s evolution from a letterpress printing operation to a multi-service marketing provider reflects a consistent focus on meeting clients’ changing business needs over more than five decades.
