Lancaster hospitality group sells two cafes
Lancaster-based hospitality group Commons Company will sell two of its three Prince Street Cafe locations to Chambersburg-based Denim Coffee, the companies announced Monday.
The sale is expected to be completed Sept. 16, with the York location transitioning first and the Columbia location following about a month later. The companies did not provide specific dates for when the locations will be rebranded as Denim Coffee.
Prince Street Cafe opened its first location in downtown Lancaster in 2006 and later expanded to York and Columbia.
Commons said the sale will allow the company to focus more time and resources on its original Prince Street Cafe, as well as its Passenger Coffee and Tea and Merrymaker Catering brands.
“Twenty years is a long time to do anything, and it means a lot when you’ve done it in the same place, alongside the same community,” said Crystal Weaver, founder of Prince Street Cafe and co-owner of Commons Company. “Putting our energy into the original cafe, Passenger and our home here in Lancaster feels right.”
Denim Coffee was founded in 2011 by Matt and Kristin Ramsay and now operates nine specialty coffee locations across the midstate.
“York and Columbia have been served well by Prince Street Cafe for years – we have an immense amount of respect for what has been created in both communities,” said Ramsay, co-owner of Denim Coffee. “It is a great honor to carry on a legacy of hospitality and care into the future.”
