Penn State Health has gone through a tremendous amount of growth in the past few years toward becoming an integrated, academic health system with Penn State College of Medicine, said Stephen Massini, CEO of Penn State Health. “We opened two new acute care hospitals in two years,” in Lancaster County and in Cumberland County. “We just fully integrated into Penn State Health PPI, which provides critical behavioral health services to our community. I’m proud of the tremendous team that has made these things possible.”
Massini said he’s always believed in the Golden Rule, of treating others as you’d want to be treated. Whether in a patient interaction, or working through a challenge with a colleague, or talking to a potential health care partner, it comes down to really listening, showing them the respect he hopes they will show him, and demonstrating that he cares about what they want and value. “That may seem pretty basic, but it’s really the foundation of how I’ve tried to live my life and career.”
