Located in Abbottstown since 1750, The Altland House is one of the country’s longest continually operating taverns, according to the company’s website.
William Penn gave the land to Mr. Abbott, and the tavern soon received one of the first liquor licenses issued in the state. In 1880, Rueben Altland purchased it, and in the 1950s the Haugh family took over,” the company’s website stated.
The Altland House is currently in its third generation of family ownership, celebrating over 250 years in business.
In addition to the original Altland House which is now a grill, brewery and inn, the Altland House Hospitality Group caters at venues across Pennsylvania including Highland Taps & Tables in Hanover, Wyndham Garden in York, Penn National Golf Club & Inn in Fayetteville, The Bigmount Lodge in Dover and the Lodge at Liberty Forge in Mechanicsburg.
