After working his way through college at one of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education universities, Don Schin spent most of the next 23 years with two leading Fortune 500 companies.
Schin gained extensive global experience, particularly in Asia. He worked for the largest manufacturer of connectors and passive devices in the world, AMP Inc./Tyco International Ltd. AMP/Tyco primarily served the automotive, computer, contract manufacturing and communications markets. After five years on two different assignments and living in Tokyo, he became fluent in Japanese.
In 2000, he left the corporate “rat race” to step out on his own. Over the past 15 years, he has owned real estate, several businesses and gained experience in the franchise, training, speaking, coaching and business development arenas.
Schin previously owned three master franchise territories in Pennsylvania and New Jersey for ActionCOACH, a business coaching, consulting and training company. ActionCOACH is the world’s No. 1 business coaching firm, with 900 coaches and offices in more 50 countries. It provides services for small and medium-size businesses.
Today, Schin owns a franchise brokerage and consulting company. He leverages his 15 years in the franchising industry as a master franchisee to mentor people during career transitions and to assist them in finding the right business opportunity through his profiling, interviewing and matching expertise. His new company, Franchise Building Expert, also helps franchisers in the areas of business development, sales training and franchise operations. This company will literally become the sales department for slow-growing and emerging franchise brands.
Schin is also a seasoned professional speaker and author. He speaks on various topics, including small business, franchise development, sales, career change, fear/risk, life balance and relationships. He authored the book, “Can You Relate?” as well as a recently released daily motivational/devotional book under the same brand.
He is actively involved in the community, where his time is devoted to men’s groups, local churches and nonprofit boards, such as Bethesda Mission. He also serves as the chaplain for the Harrisburg Senators baseball team via BaseballChapel.org. Schin enjoys time with his wife, Kim, of 37 years. They have two grown children, two grandsons and a granddaughter.
