A lot has been done to expand access and pursue excellence. Topping Gibbons’ list is UPMC’s collaborative work with colleges and universities, vocational programs, high schools and even elementary schools to showcase careers in health care. “This initiative is not just about filling immediate job vacancies; it’s a strategic move toward creating sustainable, fulfilling career paths in health care and developing the next generation of caregivers.”
As to his qualities and values, personal connection lies at the heart of his approach, Gibbons said. “In an increasingly digital and fast-paced world, the power of a genuine connection is often underestimated. Taking time to truly engage with people, understand their perspectives, and actively listen to their stories has enriched my life with diverse viewpoints and helped foster stronger, more meaningful relationships.” This practice has been invaluable to Gibbons in building trust and creating a network of supportive and engaged colleagues and partners.
