The former COO of a hospital is set to succeed Lou Baverso as president of Carlisle.

UPMC announced on Monday that Jarrod Johnson, the COO of John H. Stroger Hospital in Chicago, will replace Baverso as president of the Cumberland County Hospital.

Baverso will continue serving as COO of UPMC and president of the system’s Central Region.

Prior to joining John H. Stroger Hospital, Johnson served as senior vice president of operations with Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

“Jarrod brings more than 25 years of health care and hospital leadership to our region,” said Philip Guarneschelli, president of UPMC Pinnacle. “His experience with service line leadership and his strategic vision for growing clinical programs will provide a smooth transition and ensure a bright future for UPMC Carlisle.”

Johnson is originally from New Jersey and attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem where he played football. Following college he played professionally for four years in the Canadian Football League and in NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Diego Chargers.

“I believe in the value and positive impact of servant leadership and relationship building and look forward to working with the strong teams at UPMC,” said Johnson. “Together, we are fully committed to patient-centered care and providing an outstanding experience for our patients and staff.”
