Ronald Hershner served as managing partner of Stock and Leader for 10 years, succeeded by Steve Hovis in February 2021. In December 2022, Hovis suffered a stroke. “Fortunately he is recovering and will be back to work soon,” Hershner said. “Until then, I serve my partners as interim managing partner. My primary goal has been to build on the successes we enjoyed in 2022. I am responsible for setting and implementing priorities according to our strategic plan and managing our human resources and financial affairs while maintaining a full practice.”

Hershner said he was looking forward to stepping back from management in 2023 so he could travel. “But I owe a greater duty to provide reassurance and stability to my partners and our employees. I had to dig deep to find the time and energy to lead in the face of significant challenges. Balancing the competing demands of my busy law practice and firm management was stressful. Thanks to the support of my wife and our firm’s leaders, I was able to provide steady leadership and advance the firm.”

Reading history and biography has always imparted to him great lessons of leadership, he said. “I am inspired by those who understand leadership is a commitment to serve, not a means to exercise power. I look to emulate those who encourage and enable others to succeed, maintain a sense of humor, accept mistakes – of their own and of others – and seek successes, not credit.”
