York municipalities, nonprofits granted nearly $2M

Nearly $2 million in grants have been awarded to York County municipalities and nonprofits.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) voted to grant $1.9 million in funding via the Category 4 Local Share Account (LSA) Program for York County Nonprofits and Municipalities. A total of 26 grants were awarded to 15 municipalities in York County; 11 nonprofit organizations gained grants for applications submitted via the York County Economic Alliance, as the county’s economic development organization.

“LSA funding is a critical tool that empowers our nonprofit partners to turn vision into reality,” York County Economic Alliance President/CEO Kevin Schreiber said in a statement. “Through LSA funding, nonprofits can accelerate projects that might otherwise take years to realize. It’s not just about dollars, it’s about delivering lasting impact in our neighborhoods and improving quality of life across York County. These awards would be impossible without the support of our York County state delegation.”

According to a release, this revenue is made possible through gaming revenue available for projects in public interest. York County benefits from the taxes collected from revenues generated by our Category 4 Casino: Hollywood Casino York.

“Thanks to this investment through LSA funding, we’re not just upgrading a kitchen – we’re expanding opportunity,” said Crispus Attucks Association CEO Bobby Simpson. “These renovations will power a hands-on culinary training program that equips individuals with real skills, real confidence, and a real pathway to sustainable careers.”

The following nonprofits received CFA grants for the 2025 Category 4 LSA Grant Round: Leg Up Farm, Inc. – $10,500; York County SPCA – $36,976; TrueNorth Wellness Services – $20,930; Crispus Attucks York – $90,200; Family First Health – $75,000; Keystone Kidspace – $100,000; Shadowfax Corporation – $100,000; Shiloh Baptist Church – $90,774; York County Children’s Advocacy Center -$30,040; York County Library System – $62,979; and York Habitat for Humanity – $64,732.

Receiving Municipal Awards were Carroll Township – $85,995; Delta Borough – $74,549; East Hopewell Township – $75,391; Fairview Township – $123,146; Fawn Grove Borough – $178,927; Hallam Borough – $208,312; Hellam Township – $71,661; Railroad Borough – $85,000; Red Lion Borough – $72,234; Shrewsbury Township – $86,444; Spring Garden Township – $56,672; West Manchester Township – $40,570; West York Borough – $48,699; York Haven Borough – $40,000; and York Township – $6,100.

Starting with the program’s inauguration in 2022, the Category 4 LSA program has distributed $7.6 million to 80 projects (48 municipal and 32 nonprofit) in York County. The YCEA assisted a year ago with securing over $8.4 million in LSA grant awards, along with facilitating $107 million in active PA Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program projects.

Municipalities and nonprofits are also eligible to benefit from the Statewide LSA program which draws from a statewide pool of funds and has been characterized by larger awards. This grant round is subject to guidelines which are similar to the Category 4 program, per the release. Applications are accepted annually from Sept. 1-Nov. 30.
