Wagman is a multi-faceted construction firm with major operations in heavy civil, general construction, and geotechnical construction services and is headquartered in York. It employs 529 people.

George A. Wagman started the company in 1902 as a small manufacturing business producing concrete sidewalks followed by bridges, dams, reservoirs and interchanges and overpasses. Wagman earned the reputation of a premier bridge builder. His memoirs reflect a commitment to safety, integrity, mutual respect, innovation, sense of urgency and community, which are values that are still ingrained in the company today.

Wagman Construction, Inc. was formed in 1995 for private sector operations. Wagman acquired a geotechnical construction in 2012 and a heavy highway contracting company in 2013; both in Virginia. Today, Wagman, Inc. is the management and holding company of Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. and Wagman Construction, Inc.

Wagman’s core values—integrity, mutual respect, safety, innovation, sense of urgency and community—have been a foundation of the company for four generations. They are an integral part of every decision and every plan made at Wagman and are reflected in the ‘Wagman Way’. “Wagman’s values are the cornerstone of our success and longevity for our past, present and future,” said CEO Michael Glezer.

Wagman has grown and diversified through strategic planning, acquisitions and expansions, Since transportation investment is dependent on cyclical state and federal funding, the company diversified into commercial construction to provide stability and growth. Wagman’s expertise, relationships and reputation position the company as a partner of choice to pursue larger, joint-venture projects. “We recognized the benefits of expanding our geotechnical resources to provide comprehensive solutions and value for clients,” Glezer said.

Wagman perpetuates the ‘Wagman Way’ and the core values into its culture. “We are proud to have people spanning many different generations and cultures. We have many families who work within the family business and recommend Wagman as a place to work. We have over 50 employees with over 15 years of service at Wagman, some with 30 or 40, as well as fresh faces right out of school. We recognize the value of our people and celebrate successes together,” he said.

Wagman supports giving of time, talent and treasure, providing opportunities and resources to increase employee engagement. A Community Committee organizes events throughout the year. In addition to the company match program for employee giving, the Wagman family established the Wagman Community Fund in 2006 to ensure continued support of the community despite changes that may occur in the economy or the business.

“Our vision is to be the premier contractor in the markets we serve. We value the relationships we have with our people and our clients. Longterm relationships result in repeat business and referrals. Wagman is committed to our people and preserving the culture built on our core values. We demonstrate those values when working with owners, joint venture partners and subcontractors, which drives success. This differentiates our team, which benefits projects and clients,” Glezer said.
