UPMC Pinnacle is dropping “Pinnacle” from the names of three of its central Pennsylvania hospitals as part of a systemwide rebranding.

The -based hospital system said Monday that it is renaming UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic, UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg and UPMC Pinnacle West Shore to UPMC Community Osteopathic, UPMC Harrisburg and UPMC West Shore.

The rebranding also includes a move from UPMC Pinnacle to UPMC Central Pa. Region.

The name changes are effective this week and are part of an initiative by Pittsburgh-based UPMC to “unify and improve wayfinding for patients and visitors.” They come more than three years after UPMC acquired in September 2017.

Following suit, UPMC will not be using Pinnacle in any of its naming, said Kelly McCall, director of public relations for the UPMC Central Pa. Region.

For the three midstate hospitals, this also includes updated signage and wayfinding, which will help patients with navigating the facilities, said Lou Baverso, chief operating officer of the UPMC Central Pa. Region.

UPMC has also changed the name of its PinnacleHealth patient portal to UPMC Central Pa. Portal.

“UPMC Pinnacle has experienced astounding growth in advanced clinical services and facility expansion since merging into the UPMC network three years ago,” said Philip Guarneschelli, president of the UPMC Central Pa. Region.

“We’ve added increased access to clinical trials in cancer, new technologies for surgery and diagnostics, opened new locations and inpatient units, and much more.
“The new naming and signage are the next step in our transition to simplify and unify our position as the provider of the most advanced care in central Pennsylvania.”
