The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced on June 30 the induction of York‘s The Yorktowne Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton into the Historic Hotels of America registry.
The Yorktowne Hotel joins more than 300 hotels and resorts across the U.S. that have been recognized by Historic Hotels of America for preserving and maintaining historic integrity, architecture and ambiance.
Hotels inducted into the Historic Hotels of America registry must be at least 50 years old, designated as a National Historic Landmark or listed in the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as having historic significance. The Yorktowne Hotel is a renaissance revival structure first built in 1925. Its history includes guests like Frank Sinatra and Eleanor Roosevelt. After closing in 2016, the hotel reopened in 2023 following a $52 million renovation.
“We commend The Yorktowne Hotel, York County Industrial Development Authority and leadership team for their careful historic preservation work, stewardship and vision that will allow future generations of travelers to experience this unique historic destination,” Lawrence Horwitz, executive vice president of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide, said in a release.
