Taylor Chip plans to close all of its locations. The Lancaster County-based cookie company said in an April 2 Facebook post that it has made “the very, very difficult decision” to close its stores.
“Closing our doors is incredibly hard. Over the years, so many of you welcomed Taylor Chip into your homes and your lives,” Taylor Chip said in the Facebook post.
Its Intercourse location has already closed. According to the Facebook post, the last day for its York location, 3013 East Market Street, Unit 700, York, will be Saturday, April 4. The Lancaster location–1573 Manheim Pike, Lancaster–and the Hershey location–121 Towne Square Drive, Hershey–will close April 11. Customers who wish to have cookies shipped, may place orders by 9 a.m. April 11.
Taylor Chip is owned and operated by husband and wife Sara and Doug Taylor, who opened their first Taylor Chip cookie stand in August 2018.
“We were on a mission to make this bigger than ourselves, and we bet everything on it. Opening new stores, scaling fast. Some of those decisions didn’t turn out the way we wanted,” the Facebook past said.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy mid-February and closed its locations in Philadelphia, while keeping its Lancaster County, York and Hershey locations open. However, that’s now changed. In a March 31 court filing, Taylor Chip said that since the company originally filed the Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February, it has experienced a continuous decline in sales revenue.
According to the filing, at the peak of the business, it was averaging $500,000 a month revenue. For the month of March, revenue is approximately $110,000, and the decline hindered the company’s ability to successfully reorganize.
The March 31 filing asked the court to dismiss the bankruptcy filing. A hearing on the petition is scheduled for April 21.
