An investment of over $4 million in Industry Partnership grant funding to strengthen workforce development projects has been made by the Shapiro Administration.
Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Secretary Nancy Walker announced the investment on Monday.
Along with strengthening the state’s workforce, the investment is designed to boost industry partnerships across Pennsylvania by encouraging businesses to collaborate across sectors to recruit, train and retain workers in high-demand fields like IT, robotics, healthcare, and agriculture.
“This $4 million investment in Industry Partnership grants is a pivotal step in fostering collaboration across Pennsylvania’s key sectors,” Walker said in a statement. “Under Governor Shapiro’s leadership, we are committed to strengthening industry connections, enhancing training opportunities, and driving economic growth.”
According to a release, available funding will be awarded in increments of up to $400,000 to support industry partnerships across Pennsylvania to improve economic growth and prepare workers with training for their current position and future advancement.
Projects funded through Industry Partnership grants are aimed at increasing worker recruitment and retention; increasing the number of workers attaining an industry-recognized credential; increasing worker wages and compensation; creating jobs; filling vacant jobs; and helping employers retain newly hired employees.
Local workforce development boards, non-profit and non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, educational and post-secondary educational organizations, labor organizations, business associations, and economic development entities are all eligible applicants.
“By empowering local organizations and businesses to partner in addressing workforce needs, we are paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future for all Pennsylvanians,” said Walker.
