Pa. Health Care Association names new president/CEO

• Michael Jacobs appointed PHCA president & CEO effective Oct. 6.

• Jacobs previously held leadership roles with AHCA and PHCA.

• Zach Shamberg departs after 12 years, including 6 as CEO.

The Pennsylvania Health Care Association (PHCA) has appointed Michael Jacobs as president/CEO, effective Oct. 6, succeeding Zach Shamberg. 

This appointment comes after Shamberg shared his plans in June to leave the association to pursue a nationally focused opportunity with a long-term care provider. 

“We are incredibly grateful to Zach Shamberg for his outstanding contributions to the association,” PHCA Board Chair Bill Weisberg said in a statement. “As we bid him farewell, we are equally enthusiastic to welcome Michael Jacobs. His leadership, experience, and vision align perfectly with our strategic priorities, and we are confident that he will guide our association to new heights of success and impact.” 

Jacobs previously served as a vice president of Government Affairs, a consultant for the American Health Care Association, and director of Advocacy and Legislative Affairs for PHCA from 2007-2014. 

“I am honored and excited to step into the role of president and CEO for PHCA,” said Jacobs. “I have long advocated alongside the association in its commitment to advancing quality care and achieving significant reform for long-term care in Pennsylvania, and I look forward to working closely with the Board, staff, and our dedicated members to build upon the strong foundation and advance our shared goals.” 

Under Shamberg’s leadership, the association strengthened its position as a voice for long-term care in Pennsylvania. 

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to lead the Pennsylvania Health Care Association since 2019, and to be a member of this fantastic team throughout the past twelve years,” said Shamberg. “From the moment I arrived in Harrisburg in 2014 to serve as our director of Government Affairs, I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing leaders in long-term care, and I am forever grateful for all their support and passion for our sector. 

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am confident that the association will continue to build on the momentum we’ve created. While I am excited for what’s next in my career, I will always cherish my time here and remain a strong supporter of the association’s mission and values,” added Shamberg.
