Cumberland Countys newest Big Ugly Warehouse has nothing to do with logistics.
The new owners of the Big Ugly Warehouses stores in Mechanicsburg and York opened a new store Aug. 4 on the Harrisburg Pike in North Middleton Township.
Brothers Chris and Nik Sarago and several private investors purchased both stores from longtime owners Randy and Howard Hirsch in April. They declined to state the purchase price. A Big Ugly Warehouse on Derry Street in Harrisburg closed several years ago.
The Big Ugly Warehouses are known for their discounted hot tubs, pool tables, kitchen cabinets and other overstocked and discontinued items. The brothers decided to open a store outside Carlisle to take advantage of the residential construction and remodeling occurring in the western portion of the county, Chris Sarago said.
The Saragos also own Central PA Wholesalers, a deep-discount retail store in New Cumberland that sells overstocked and discontinued clothing, electronic equipment and other miscellaneous items.
We were already selling lower-end products, but the business plan was still the same, Chris Sarago said.
The brothers newest location at 876 Harrisburg Pike, across from the U.S. Army War College had been a former lumber-supply business and hardware store in recent years.
