United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz cut falls by 70% using Helpany‘s AI platform, and achieved zero falls in April, a historic milestone for the community.
A faith-based, nonprofit Life Plan Community with over 115 years of service, United Zion deployed Helpany’s radar-based AI platform in January 2026. In four months, falls in the retirement community had been dramatically reduced, and the recording of zero falls is a first in the community’s history.
“Achieving zero falls in April 2026 was a historic milestone for our community and a moment our entire team is proud of,” Director of Personal Care at United Zion Retirement Community Miranda Troyer said. “Those numbers reflected not only fewer incidents, but a meaningful shift in how we identify risk, prioritize care, and support residents proactively.”
The transformative results in resident safety followed the deployment of the system across all assisted living units.
“With Helpany’s AI-powered platform, our residents are safer, families have greater peace of mind, and our caregivers are able to work with more confidence, focus, and resilience every day,” said Troyer.
United Zion reported that over a four-month observation period from January through April 2026, the community achieved a significant reduction in falls compared to its prior history, culminating in zero recorded falls in April.
With more than three million occurring each year in long-term care, falls remain one of the most dangerous and costly challenges. One fall can trigger long-term health setbacks, emotional distress, and costly move-outs.
An estimated 1 million falls are preventable, however.
United Zion Retirement Community addressed the challenge of reducing falls by implementing Helpany’s AI-powered fall prevention system. Helpany’s radar-based device, Paul, is installed on the ceiling of each resident’s apartment. Paul analyzes each resident’s motion patterns, detects shifts in gait, sleep, bathroom frequency, and sedentary behavior, and notifies caregivers when intervention may be needed.
Paul provides the care team with a 24/7 virtual caregiver assistant and a level of visibility into resident well-being that had not existed before. The platform enables caregivers to identify subtle condition changes earlier, and helps support proactive interventions before situations escalate into falls.
January 2026 showed a reduction in falls at United Zion compared to the previous year, and the improvement continued each month. March saw the retirement community surpass an 80% monthly reduction. April closed with zero recorded falls, an historic first and confirmation that AI-powered intervention had succeeded in transforming the United Zion community.
Helpany’s AI-powered service plan assessment showed that 1 in 3 care plans required realignment, as documented care levels no longer fully reflected residents’ evolving needs and risks. Adjusting care plans and interventions sooner, the care team ensures residents received the right level of support at the right time. Improved insight also led to earlier interventions, which resulted in fewer falls.
“United Zion Retirement Community is setting a new benchmark for what’s possible in senior living — and for the entire state of Pennsylvania,” Helpany Co-Founder and CEO Sandro Cilurzo said. “As the first community in Pennsylvania to implement Helpany, they have demonstrated what proactive, AI-powered care looks like in practice.”
Cilurzo added that zero falls in a month is the result of a United Zion team that embraced proactive care and used data to act before incidents occurred.
“Behind every fall is a person, a story, and a life that can be changed forever,” said Cilurzo. “What United Zion has accomplished demonstrates how AI-powered, privacy-first technology can deliver deeper care insights without cameras or microphones — helping protect residents while preserving dignity.”
