A new sale grant aimed at attracting quality events to Cumberland County has opened.
The Destination Sale Grant was announced Wednesday by the Cumberland Area Economic Corporation (CAEDC) via its destination marketing arm, the Cumberland Valley Bureau. The destination grant is designed to increase overnight travel to the county, and applicants can apply for advertising, bid fees, marketing, shuttle rentals, and facility rentals, including conference rooms, sports fields, and outdoor space.
Grant amounts range from $10,000-100,000. Every dollar awarded will have a match of at least 50 cents.
CAEDC’s recent investments in attracting events include the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Big Spring School District and the PIAA Fall Festival, which includes PIAA Championships for soccer, volleyball, field hockey and football held at Cumberland Valley High School.
“The PIAA Fall festival offers an opportunity for teams and communities to converge to one central location, fostering an Olympic-style atmosphere which creates a memorable experience for all participants,” PIAA Assistant Executive Director Jennifer Grassel said in a statement.
“We are extremely pleased with Cumberland Valley High School and the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau as the hosts of the PIAA Fall Festival and look forward to continuing our partnership.”
CAEDC is also working with the Big 33 Football Classic to move its showcase game, along with annual events to Cumberland Valley High School and the surrounding area beginning in 2024.
“Our team is actively looking for new opportunities to grow visitation to our destination and overnight stays to our lodging properties by attracting new events, which we hope to host for years to come,” CAEDC’s Director of Destination Marketing Kristen Rowe said.
“Overnight stays don’t just impact our lodging properties; they increase dollars spent on dining and shopping in our region and support our local economy.”
