Members 1st Federal Credit Union hosted a child care town hall Thursday in Enola, uniting leaders to tackle how Pennsylvania‘s child care crisis impacts workforce and business growth.
The Cumberland County Commission for Women’s (CCCW) Child Care Town Hall Part 2 was held at Members 1st Federal Credit Union’s administrative headquarters in Enola. The business-led forum brought together community leaders, business executives and child care advocates to address the growing impact of Pennsylvania’s child care crisis on the workforce and economy.
“Access to reliable, high-quality child care is essential,” Michael Wilson, president & CEO of Members 1st, said in a statement. “After hearing directly from our associates, we partnered with a provider within walking distance of our campus to meet their top need: convenient, flexible child care. This isn’t just about talent acquisition and retention; it is about creating a culture that shows we care. When we invest in our people, they are better able to serve our members. The Child Care Town Hall panelists included Wilson; Katie Caples, Every Child Has Opportunities (ECHO) Director, Community Connections for Children; Bob Carl Jr., president & CEO, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce; Pamela Hill, CEO and owner, Signature Staffing; and Ryan Unger, president & CEO, Harrisburg Regional Chamber/CREDC.
According to a release, the conversation centered on how the lack of affordable, accessible child care is driving workforce shortages and limiting business growth across the commonwealth. Panelists discussed strategies to create innovative, collaborative solutions that support both working families and employers.
