Messiah Lifeways of Mechanicsburg has been named by the PA Office of Budget as a recipient of $1 million in funding through the 2024 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).
The RACP is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.
“It’s such an honor to receive not just one but two grants from the state—having the value of our efforts to meet the growing and evolving needs of older adults recognized and supported in such a tangible and transformational way,” Messiah Lifeways CEO & President Karl Brummer said in a statement. “These dollars will help us move our mission forward, broadening our regional reach and meeting a growing need for places where people cannot just reside as they age, but also where they can gain a meaningful community with whom they can learn, explore, and thrive.”
According to a release, half of these dollars are allocated to the site preparation and construction of Messiah Lifeways’ new Fernecrest campus, which broke ground earlier this month on an 85-acre property located in York County at 100 Spanglers Mill Road, RACP. The other half will support HVAC upgrades needed on its Messiah Village campus in Mechanicsburg.
Funding will allow Messiah Lifeways to focus more on lifestyle amenities that will offer value, and opportunities for leisure and increased well-being to older adults, per the release. Fernecrest amenities will feature a nature trail, a fitness center, and dining venues.
Founded in 1896, Messiah Lifeways is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving older adults throughout South Central Pennsylvania.
