Headquartered in York, Heritage Valley is a member-focused financial institution dedicated to providing personalized banking solutions, fostering financial wellness, and supporting the local community. Heritage Valley employs 29 people and has three locations.

Early in 1935, a small group of enterprising friends at the York Ice Machinery Corporation envisioned a way to strengthen the financial futures of its employees. They set out to build a financial cooperative that could provide services to its mostly blue-collar workers that were often overlooked by the bigger banks.

In 1969 after several decades of growth, the credit union became York Borg-Warner Federal Credit Union when York Ice Machinery Corp. merged into Borg-Warner Corp. In the late 90s, the name was changed to Heritage Valley FCU, and the charter shifted from a select employee group to a community charter allowing the credit union to offer membership to anyone who lives, works, worships or goes to school in York County.

Michael Gutshall, credit union president and CEO, said, “Heritage Valley’s core values—be passionate, be trustworthy, be accountable—are the foundation of everything we do. Rooted in service and community engagement, Heritage Valley FCU has played a vital role in supporting local businesses, charitable initiatives, and financial literacy programs. Our focus on people over profits ensures that every decision is made with the best interests of our members in mind. Our commitment to financial transparency builds long-term trust.”

He said through innovation, strategic growth, and a commitment to it members, the credit union has remained a stable and trusted financial partner. Services have expanded to include online and mobile banking, low-rate loans, and high-yield savings options. Financial literacy programs have been launched to empower members with knowledge on budgeting, credit, and homeownership. Local business support includes tailored lending solutions and partnerships that fuel community growth.

“Our longevity is a direct result of fostering a positive, purpose-driven environment where employees feel valued, empowered, and motivated to make a difference. We ensure our members receive the guidance and support they need. This commitment creates a strong sense of purpose and job satisfaction. We have a workplace where teamwork, respect, and professional growth are encouraged, and we offer ongoing training to help the team stay ahead of industry trends, “Gutshall said.

He said the credit union and its team members engage in charitable initiatives, including sponsorships, volunteer work, and donations to local nonprofits.

“Our ability to adapt to evolving financial needs while staying true to our member-first philosophy has set us apart. Key factors include a member-centric approach and competitive products and services. We continuously invest in technology and innovation to keep pace with modern financial trends and make loan applications effortless. We empower members with financial literacy programs, helping them make informed decisions about credit, savings, and homeownership,” Gutshall said.
