Duck Donuts to debut new look later this year

Mechanicsburg-based will unveil a new store design later this year with updated technology to “improve customer experience and reduce costs for franchisees.” 

Duck Donuts said the upgrades to the stores will create easier ordering with counter service, self-ordering kiosks and a dedicated area for mobile and third-party pickup orders. A in Wyomissing, Berks County, will be one of the first to open. 

To localize the stores, Duck Donuts said the new shops will feature a sleek interior design with local artwork, including an accent wall, 3D graphics, digital menu boards and high-top barstools to watch the donuts being made. The exteriors will have colorful awnings and seating with umbrellas, where permitted. 

The new shops will also have behind-the-scenes areas for catering and digital orders away from the customer ordering areas.  

Duck Donuts said the smaller footprints of 1,000 to 1,400 square feet will reduce the buildout costs for franchise partners by up to $75,000. 

 “As we work towards elevating the Duck Donuts brand, it begins with consistently meeting the needs of our guests however they chose to engage with our authentic made-to-order concept, whether that’s through a digital platform or in-shop experience,” said Betsy Hamm, Duck Donuts CEO. “Introducing our new shop of the future allows us to enhance the guest experience while providing a better return for our franchise partners.” 

The company currently operates three international and 117 U.S. franchise locations across 23 states and Puerto Rico.
