D&H Distributing Co.
D&H Distributing, headquartered in Harrisburg, is an employee-owned technology distributor serving North American markets. Co-presidents Michael Schwab and Dan Schwab lead 1,600 employees.
In 1918, D&H began as a two-person tire retreading business in Williamsport. Over 108 years and several strategic pivots, it has evolved into one of the nation’s leading technology distributors. “While technologies and products have changed throughout the decades, D&H’s level of service, innovation, and excellence have been a mainstay of our history,” the company has stated.
By the 1980s, D&H expanded beyond the Mid-Atlantic region toward a nationwide presence. In the 1990s, the company established an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, granting co-ownership to employees — a move the company credits as a key reason D&H consistently ranks among the Best Places to Work. “Because we are an ESOP, our team members own a percentage of the company — so in essence, they’re motivated to think like an owner,” the company noted.
Community engagement runs through the D&H Cares foundation, established in 2008 and run entirely by employees. The foundation conducts quarterly national and regional activities and has partnered with the American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and the local Make-A-Wish chapter.
