York Literacy Institute (YLI) hired Jason McSherry as its new president and CEO, effective Feb. 20.
McSherry, selected after a national search, comes to YLI, formerly York County Literacy Council, from WellSpan Health where he served as director of Clinical & Operations Communications.
His career also includes positions at Memorial Hospital (now UPMC Memorial) and the York County Economic Alliance.
“I am grateful for this tremendous opportunity and looking forward to leading the York Literacy Institute into the future. The organization has been growing rapidly and helping more York County residents achieve their goals thanks to an amazing staff, board of directors and current executive director, Bobbi Anne DeLeo,” McSherry said. “I am excited to continue the momentum and help even more students and individuals gain the literacy skills for a successful tomorrow.”
YLI teaches English literacy skills to adults through in-person and HyFlex classes, one-on-one tutoring and digital language labs.
“Jason McSherry is no stranger to the York Community. His arrival marks a new chapter at the York Literacy Institute, building on its commitment to providing quality literacy education to empower adults for successful engagement in the home, workplace, and community,” said Alice Muldrow, head of YLI’s Succession Committee. “With a strong track record in leadership and community involvement, McSherry is poised to drive the organization’s mission forward, enhancing its role in the community, and empowering all individuals who seek help from YLI.”
McSherry has served on the boards at York Literacy Institute, York Habitat for Humanity, and March of Dimes, YLI said.
