Wolf Administration approves $36 million increase in NAP funding
Pennsylvania’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) was approved for an additional $36 million in funding, Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Monday. The program encourages private-sector investment in distressed communities by providing tax credits to the businesses providing capital.
The $36 million increase in funding will support 214 community revitalization projects across the state. Wolf said the project is needed now more than ever because of the pandemic.
“This has been a challenging year for all of us, and the projects we are supporting today will help us grow stronger and more resilient in 2021 and beyond,” he said.
Businesses can earn tax credits through the program by investing in projects related to affordable housing, community services, crime prevention, education and more. This year the program also allowed businesses to receive credits for projects related to COVID-19 and social justice assistance.
Of the 214 new community revitalization projects funded by the program this month, 20 were in the midstate and 21 were in the Lehigh Valley.
In the midstate, organizations such as the Dauphin County Library System, YWCA of York and the Carlisle-based Hope Station Opportunity Area Neighborhood Council all received tax credits for various revitalization projects.
In the Lehigh Valley, organizations that received tax credits included the Housing Association & Development Corp. in Allentown, Habitat for Humanity Berks County and the Greater Easton Development Partnership.
“The Neighborhood Assistance Program demonstrates what is best about Pennsylvania—our critical partnerships, our commitment to community, and our tremendous spirit of giving,” said Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin. “These investments are a promise to our communities that together, we will overcome our current challenges and build a better future for everyone who calls our commonwealth home.”
