WellSpan opens York urgent care center
The new WellSpan Urgent Care, located a mile from WellSpan’s CareExpress facility, offers additional services and more hours than CareExpress, which closed on Saturday.
The new center, at 717 Town Center Drive near the West Manchester Town Center, will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CareExpress was closed on Sundays.
The change is crucial for a center focused on immediate care, according to Creston Tate, WellSpan’s medical director of urgent care.
“Sprained ankles, nagging coughs, cuts that require stitches &ndashndash; these medical issues don’t just occur during Monday through Friday business hours,” Tate said. “WellSpan Urgent Care locations are hand-picked to provide the most convenient walk-in access to health care in the community.”
WellSpan Urgent Care also offers X-ray and blood work services, which were not available at CareExpress.
The new center cost $1.6 million and is the seventh under the WellSpan Urgent Care brand, with other facilities in York, Hanover, Shrewsbury, Gettysburg, Ephrata and Lititz.
CareExpress employed two people who will be moving to the urgent care center. Employees of WellSpan Urgent Care rotate their shifts across all seven of the urgent care facilities. Two providers and three clinical staff will work in the building at any given time.
York Township-based WellSpan Health treats patients in Central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland at eight hospitals and 170 patient care locations. The nonprofit system employs over 19,000 people.
