Speakeasy-styled jazz club set to open in Lancaster
A pop-up jazz club is opening in downtown Lancaster.
“The Beat” is scheduled to open Feb. 9 in the Publisher’s Room in the back of The Pressroom restaurant and bar. The club will be open largely on Friday and Saturday nights and will feature live entertainment, speakeasy-like atmosphere, and prohibition era cocktails.
The Pressroom re-opened in 2022 by York-based O.N.E. Hospitality. Located in the historic Steinman Hardware Building, The Pressroom closed in April 2022 after operating in Lancaster for more than 27 years.
“In 2022 when we saw that The Pressroom was going to close its doors, we didn’t want to see this institution go by the wayside,” O.N.E. Hospitality President and CEO Toni Calderone said in a statement. “We’ve taken some time as the new owners to get our footing and team in place and put our own spin on the menu while honoring the history and customer base that was developed over time.
“Now that we’re in a groove, we decided to move to the next phase of our vision.”
The Beat is styled on The King George in Tutoni’s Restaurant in downtown York. According to the O.N.E. Hospitality site, The King George is a speakeasy club featuring live music and vintage Las Vegas-style seating.
“In 2016 our group opened a speakeasy in York underground at our flagship restaurant which provided a great option for after dinner or a classy night out,” said Calderone. “We can’t wait to bring that kind of experience to this location that is near and dear to the heart of Lancaster City.”
Live music will highlight the opening of The Beat. Steve Sauer & Katie Kresge are scheduled to perform on Friday, Feb. 9, with Dustin Koehler & Co. set for Saturday, Feb. 10th. Both shows will run from 9 p.m.-12 a.m.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the great array of late-night options in Lancaster City and we can’t wait to open The Beat’s doors to both new and returning guests,” Calderone said.
