York County’s mass transit service, Rabbittransit, said it will begin turning passengers away that aren’t wearing face masks next week.
Rabbittransit’s bus operators and other essential staff have been required to wear face masks covering their nose and mouth since April 6 and the company announced on Thursday that it will be asking its passengers to do the same starting April 13.
The face mask requirement complies with recommendations from both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Gov. Tom Wolf for anyone leaving their homes to wear face coverings to limit exposure to COVID-19.
Rabbittransit’s bus operators have been asked to monitor compliance with the face covering requirement and will not be allowing passengers without a face mask covering their nose and mouth to board the bus.
Rabbittransit also announced it will be reducing its fixed route schedules for Hanover and York on April 13.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, our employees too are faced with the care and support of their families. This has resulted in a reduction in our workforce and will impact the level of service we are able to provide. We understand the importance for transportation in our riders’ lives and apologize for the challenges this may cause,” said Richard Farr, executive director at Rabbittransit.
