National rankings in GI surgery, orthopedics, and ENT specialties
Holy Spirit and St. Joseph rated high performing in multiple areas
Three Penn State Health hospitals were named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-2026 Best Hospitals list for excellence in specialty care and surgical outcomes.
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Holy Spirit Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center were named by U.S. News in its 2025-2026 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings. The magazine ranks hospitals for excellent care in 15 adult specialties and evaluates their performance in certain surgical procedures and medical conditions.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the high-quality care our physicians, nurses and staff deliver every day,” Dr. Michael Kupferman, chief executive officer at Penn State Health, said in a statement. “In my short time with this organization, I have been deeply impressed by the extraordinary professionalism, compassion and commitment to excellence demonstrated across every level of our health system.”
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center earned national rankings in three specialties: gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics and ear, nose and throat. The Medical Center is also recognized as high performing in five additional specialties: cancer, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery and urology. Overall, U.S. News ranked Milton S. Hershey Medical Center as #1 in the Harrisburg metro region and #6 in Pennsylvania.
Holy Spirit Medical Center is ranked as a high performing hospital for treating hip fractures, pneumonia and heart arrythmia. St. Joseph Medical Center earned a high performing rating for treating congestive heart failure and heart attack.
Also ranked was Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture between Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Select Medical, which was listed at #47 nationally for rehabilitation.
The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings are designed to help patients and doctors make informed decisions about where to receive care. U.S. News evaluates hospitals based on objective measures such as clinical outcomes, preventable complications and level of nursing care. State and metro area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care.
