Gaming revenue in Pa. continues to increase, PGCB reports
Listen to this articleTotal revenue generated from all forms of gaming during July 2024 was $500,783,633, an increase of 7.22% over revenue generated in July 2023, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported.
Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs). Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $207,723,789 during July 2024.
Retail slot machines revenue was $204,305,305, a 4.83% decrease in revenue from the July 2023 total of $214,668,942. The number of slot machines in operation in July 2024 was 24,709, less than the 25,291 at the casinos last July. Tax revenue from slots machines this July was $103,230,442.
Revenue from retail table games for July 2024 was $79,380,427, a drop of 4.84% from July 2023 when revenue was $83,415,677. Table games tax revenue during July 2024 was $13,137,964.
Internet casino-type gaming (iGaming) offered online generated monthly gross revenue totaling $174,318,463 during July 2024, an increase of 31.20% over the $132,859,997 in July 2023. July 2024 tax revenue generated from internet gaming play was $75,545,125.
Total sports wagering handle for July 2024 was $414,673,804, an increase of 22.52% above the July 2023 total of $338,450,263. Taxable revenue figure for July 2024 was $38,565,690, 20.18% higher than the July 2023 taxable revenue of $32,089,785. Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during July 2024 was $13,883,648.
VGTs adjusted revenue for July 2024 was $3,498,777, 4.33% higher than a year ago at this time when revenue was $3,353,420. By the end of July 2024, all VGT operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at 69 establishments at this time last year. Tax revenue from the play of VGTs this July was $1,819,364.
The July 2024 fantasy contests’ revenue was $714,971, an increase of 9.01% over the July 2023 revenue of $655,886. Tax revenue collected from the play of fantasy contests in July 2024 was $107,246.
