Central Pennsylvania Food Bank appoints Shila Ulrich President
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has appointed Shila Ulrich as president effective January 6, 2025. Ulrich’s hiring completes the national presidential search the food bank launched August 20.
The appointment of the president is part of a long-term succession plan previously announced by David Ark, the food bank’s board chair. After a period of assimilation with the organization, Ulrich is expected to succeed the current CEO, Joe Arthur, who has led the organization for over 12 years. Arthur will then serve as the organization’s chief development officer until his retirement in late 2028.
Ulrich brings extensive non-profit leadership experience and human services expertise to her new role, having most recently served as executive director of The Caring Cupboard, a community organization dedicated to ending food insecurity in Lebanon County. Ulrich holds a Master of Social Work from Temple University, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Lebanon Valley College, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University.
Ark said despite running a national search that attracted submissions from over 400 candidates, the board is pleased that the top candidate was already close to home. Having served on the Food Bank board and committees for several years, Ulrich brings highly-relevant mission experience and deep regional knowledge and relationships.
In a media release, Ark said, “Shila has proven herself to be a strategic, dynamic, and transformative leader. She also shares the core values of our Food Bank and keeps our neighbors facing hunger at the center of her efforts. We look forward to the contributions that she will make in her leadership of our organization.”
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is a nonprofit organization with a mission of fighting hunger, improving lives, and strengthening communities. It provides meals for over 253,000 neighbors each month, by working with its 1,130 partner agencies and with the critical help of more than 15,000 volunteers.
