Starting this month, non-governmental organizations can apply for part of $5 million in grant funding to design, build and operate a high-speed broadband service infrastructure throughout the state.

Applications opened Tuesday for Pennsylvania’s Unserved High-Speed Broadband Funding Program (UHSB) through Sept. 24.

Organizations can receive funding for any projects that would help the state deploy high-speed broadband services to unserved areas.

UHSB is part of an effort by the state to get broadband connectivity to the nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians without .

Funding is distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and a maximum grant amount for any UHSB project can’t go over $1 million or 75% of the total project costs, whichever is less.

“Since taking office, one of my biggest priorities has been to build out the infrastructure needed to connect all Pennsylvanians to high-speed broadband internet,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “I encourage all eligible applicants to submit an application for funding today.”
