Q: What do you do at Gavin Advertising that sets you apart from other advertising, public relations, and digital marketing agencies?
A: We work with greater intention, placing daily emphasis on our mission of being devoted to branding and driving action. For our clients, that means we are here to tell their story, creatively solve problems through the voice of the customer and produce outcomes. We are also different from other agencies in that we believe in advising without fear. We have honest conversations on how to achieve greater success by focusing on what’s impactful, important and realistic, even when it means difficult conversations.
Why is it important for your senior team to take its time in the interview and hiring process?
We’ve learned to always be on the hunt for great talent. If we find someone we really want on our team, we work to see how can we get them. It’s a courtship. We have to test the relationship, create challenges to see how a potential hire will deal with our culture and the stresses of growth without sacrificing quality.
How are you committed to forming the right culture and searching for individuals that would be the perfect fit for Gavin?
We know that it takes a team to effectively do our job. Each person spends more time giving credit than taking it. We integrate this into our everyday approach when we have We Culture Shoutouts at our weekly all staff meetings. It’s amazing how saying “thank you” to someone in a group atmosphere can change the dynamics of a Monday.
Do you feel it is difficult to hold on to the company’s culture through fast growth?
Holding on to the company’s culture through growth stems from the top down. If I don’t live the core values or reinforce them in how I talk, act and interact, culture can get lost. You’ll hear the senior team weaving our core values into our everyday speak. Incorporating our culture into everyday tasks makes it relevant. We’re always looking at how are we doing with our culture and making necessary adjustments.
