Pixelle Specialty Solutions will end production at its Chillicothe, Ohio mill by Aug. 10.
The company cited declining staffing levels and customer demand.
Pixelle is providing support and career services for affected workers.
York County-based Pixelle Specialty Solutions has updated its WARN Act notices to employees at the Chillicothe Paper Mill in Ohio and plans to cease production at the facility by Aug. 10.
Headquartered in Spring Grove, Pixelle Specialty Solutions is a manufacturer of specialty papers, with operations in North America.
According to a release, Pixelle made the initial announcement in April. The company is working with JobsOhio and federal, state, and local officials regarding the future of the site and support for impacted employees. Pixelle is providing impacted employees with support resources, including career transition services, job placement assistance, and access to the Employee Assistance Program, per the release.
Pixelle said that staffing levels and customer demand have declined in recent weeks and that a further delay is no longer possible. As a result, the updated WARN notice reflects a new date of Aug. 10, as the last date of operation of the Chillicothe Paper Mill.
The release stated that Pixelle is exploring viable sale opportunities for the plant but is preparing for decommissioning to proceed absent a sale to a qualified buyer. If no sale occurs, the company plans to transfer the Chillicothe Paper Mill property to an entity designated by JobsOhio or another government body for nominal consideration to support long-term redevelopment of the site.
