In fewer than six months, the CEO of South Hanover Township-based The U Group LLC has hired six employees, opened an office inside the Pennsylvania CareerLink’s York County facility and placed more than 30 job seekers in the workplace.

Much of that has been in York County, but Wilson, a 15-year veteran of the staffing industry, has his sights set on Cumberland and Dauphin counties.

He has met with officials in both counties about locating a full-time office inside the Pennsylvania CareerLink locations.

“I think it’s going to happen,” said Samuel Marte, site administrator for Cumberland County and the acting administrator in York County for the Pennsylvania CareerLink. “They seem to be doing very well in York. They are helping to find people positions and (Wilson) seems interested in expanding.”

Currently, there is no full-time staffing firm working out of the Cumberland County office, Marte said. If The U Group does come in, it would be a win-win for all parties, Marte said: “A lot of times (staffing firms) can provide fairly immediately temp jobs, or temp-to-perm employment.”

A foothold in Cumberland and Dauphin counties could go a long way for the company, Marte said, citing monthly traffic of 2,500 to 2,600 at the York CareerLink and about 1,500 to 1,800 in Cumberland County. Dauphin County would be comparable, he said.

His firm has been active in warehousing and construction job placement, as well as clerical, information technology and contract engineering, he said. He wants to be diverse and said he plans to hire sales staff and recruiters for all industry sectors and territories.

“There is not a sector we’re not going to touch,” Wilson said.

Veteran placement also is a big priority for the company.

The “u” in his company names stands for united.

“We are uniting people with good companies,” Wilson said, adding that the focus is on permanent employment opportunities. “We’re trying to help companies grow.”

Aligning with the Pennsylvania CareerLink, where he is teaching classes on writing a resume and how to interview, should provide for faster growth, he said.

Lancaster County would likely follow in his geographic expansion plan.

Wilson is projecting more than $500,000 in revenue in his first year.
