For Peter J. Faben, success is all about preparation.
“Much of my job is performative in nature, and nothing is more helpful to performing
well than practice and preparation,” he said. “As one blogger wrote about the legal practice
a number of years ago, the key to being a good attorney is turning every page. By that he meant
that you should take the time to learn your case better than anyone else, better than your clients
and certainly better than your adversaries. I have seen the success this principle can bring in my
current position where I have seen more senior attorneys succeed at trial through careful and
thorough preparation rather than new whizz-bang techniques that some attorneys try to employ.”
Faben has served as second chair at two trials that resulted in defense verdicts for the firm’s
clients.
“It was gratifying to see very compassionate and competent health care providers vindicated
by a jury from the community and an honor to be able to assist in that effort,” he said.
Elizabeth H. Katz, vice president of risk management and corporate compliance at Penn
Medicine Lancaster General Health, said when Faben first joined the team of lawyers that works
with the hospital, it didn’t take long to see that Faben is funny, kind, down to earth and a topnotch
lawyer.
“His written work and key communications are extremely well written and he has the ability to
make complex matters understandable,” she said. “He also frequently meets with all different
types of health care providers employed with the system who are somehow involved in a litigation matter. Even when their involvement is
nominal, this can be very anxiety-provoking for our providers, and he has a way of setting them at ease while still effectively interviewing them about
matters relevant to the case..”
Faben is a member of the board of directors for Advoz Mediation and Restorative Practices. He recently joined the access committee of the
Lancaster Osteopathic Health Foundation, which provides funding and supports various mental health initiatives for children in Lancaster County.
He also devotes time to mentoring new lawyers starting their careers.
He is a 2018 graduate of the Leadership Lancaster Core Group.
