Pa. college partnering with semi-pro soccer team in Harrisburg
Central Penn College Athletics is partnering with the Capital City Islanders, Harrisburg‘s recently formed semi-professional soccer team.
According to a release, the partnership is aimed at enhancing student opportunities, fostering community engagement, and promoting soccer development in the region.
“Central Penn College is thrilled to partner with the Capital City Islanders,” Kasey Hicks, director of athletics at Central Penn College, said in a statement. “This partnership not only offers our students unparalleled access to real-world sports management and event experiences, but it also strengthens our commitment to growing the game of soccer in Central Pennsylvania.”
The partnership is expected to allow Central Penn College students to gain exclusive internships and take part in game-day operations and other hands-on professional development opportunities, per the release. The collaboration will also extend into the community through joint youth camps and clinics, themed game nights, and the cooperative promotion of Skyline Sports Complex on City Island, home to the Capital City Islanders and Central Penn College’s men’s and women’s soccer teams.
The collaboration is also expected to benefit students studying business and corporate communications, along with sports management, which debuted in 2023. Central Penn’s sports management program can be earned as a standalone certificate or as a concentration within the Business Administration bachelor’s degree.
The Capital City Islanders will begin competing in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) Division 1 American Conference in April 2025. With their home field set at the Skyline Sports Complex, the Islanders will look to elevate Harrisburg’s soccer scene and provide a platform for talented players.
