Being a single mom has been a wild ride filled with ups, downs, and a fair share of acts. Back in the days when my were in elementary and middle school, getting them on and off the school bus felt like I was participating in a daily circus act. 

Picture this: me, a contestant in the ultimate balancing and juggling challenge, attempting to manage the morning rush while making it to work on time. Admin jobs, associate roles – you name it, I’ve done it, all while trying to keep my cool and maintain some semblance of order in the chaos.

The school bus became the center ring of my daily performance. It was a delicate dance of breakfasts, backpacks, and bus schedules. There were mornings when I felt like a superhero, seamlessly executing the routine. But let’s be real – a lot of those days I questioned if I had signed up for a tightrope walk over a pool of hungry alligators.

Fast forward a bit, and I managed to transition into working from home around the time my kids entered high school. The flexibility was a game-changer, making the juggling act a bit more manageable. Yet, being a single mom, you know there’s no such thing as an easy ride. Balancing work, , and life in general continued to be a challenging act, just with a change in scenery.

Now, my kids have flown the , and I find myself at a crossroads. It’s time to revisit that age-old question: What do I want to be when I grow up? Well, guess what? It’s never too late to change course. So, here I am, on an unexpected but incredibly fulfilling path – I am becoming a death doula.

I know, it’s quite the shift from the corporate world to the realm of end-of-life care, but life has a funny way of surprising us. The experience of being a single mom has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the art of embracing change. I’ve learned that no matter how challenging the balancing act, it’s possible to find a new path and redefine your purpose.

Being a death doula wasn’t on my radar when my kids were under my roof, but that’s the beauty of life’s journey – it unfolds in unexpected ways. If you’re a single parent, you understand the struggles, whether you’re navigating the office or working from your kitchen table.
