Lancaster County realtors advocate for housing supply in Washington

Members of the Lancaster County Association of Realtors () traveled to Washington in mid-June to advocate for key real estate and housing policies during the 2026 REALTORS Legislative Meetings.

LCAR members and staff met with congressional staff from the office of Penn. Rep. Lloyd Smucker. The local delegation urged support for a suite of federal initiatives aimed at increasing the regional and providing support for self-employed professionals within the real estate sector.

Specific requests included advocating for:

● More Homes on the Market Act, a bill that would update the tax exclusion on the sale of a primary residence and incentivize more long-term owners to sell their homes. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, to increase housing production, improve affordability, and reduce barriers to development.

● Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act, which would encourage converting underused commercial properties into housing and mixed-use developments.

● Federal investments in , housing counseling and homebuyer education programs

● Association Health Plans Act to expand access to affordable health insurance for realtors and other independent contractors.

“America has a shortage of more than four million homes, and the solution starts with smart policy,” LCAR government affairs member Gretchen Raad said in a release.
