Effective Nov. 1, four lawyers and one paralegal from Hartman Underhill & Brubaker will join Nikolaus & Hohenadel LLP.

This follows last week’s announcement from Lancaster-based Barley Snyder Attorneys that it had hired four education lawyers and one paralegal from Hartman Underhill, effective in early November.

The four lawyers to join Nikolaus & Hohenadel LLP are Alex Henderson, Thomas W. Bergen, Brandon S. Harter and Phillip Caramenico.

Henderson and Bergen are both partners at Hartman Underhill. Combined, they will bring experience in areas such as business counseling, negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, as well as municipal law, taxation and tax-exempt organizations.

Harter and Caramenico, both associates at Hartman Underhill, will provide Nikolaus & Hohenadel with expertise in drafting technology licenses, service agreements, issues of taxation and municipal finance, and estate and general business counseling. Harter is also experienced in litigation in U.S. and Pennsylvania courts.

The paralegal, Amy Kauffman, offers services in estate planning and administration, as well as civil litigation.

“The closure of Hartman Underhill & Brubaker created an immediate opportunity for Nikolaus and Hohenadel to strengthen our firm and expand upon the service we provide our clients,” said Jack Hohenadel, partner and member of the management committee at Nikolaus & Hohenadel. “We have been very intentional in our growth in the area of business law; adding the expertise of these five individuals will have a great impact on the firm’s goals moving into 2016.”

The group joining Barley Snyder are part of Hartman Underhill’s school and municipal law group. The lawyers are Kim Smith, Robert Frankhouser, William Zee and David Walker. Aimee Kline is the paralegal.

Barley Snyder also recently hired Bill McCarty, Kylie Madsen and Jessika Warnick from Hartman Underhill. They are recognized in fields such as municipal law, litigation and real estate law.

Hartman Underhill, one of the largest law firms in Lancaster County, announced its intention to close in September.

Nikolaus & Hohenadel is based in Lancaster and has offices in Columbia, Quarryville and Strasburg.

Barley Snyder, also in Lancaster, has additional offices in York, Reading, Malvern and Hanover, as well as in Maryland.
