The company’s railroad track maintenance arm, Harsco Rail, has landed a multi-year deal worth more than $40 million to continue providing rail-grinding services in the United Kingdom.
That’s the process by which precision machines are used to smooth out the surface of the rails, correcting surface damage that could lead to dangerous fractures. Grinding prolongs rail life and leads to smoother operation of trains.
The award from Britain’s Network Rail continues a relationship that began in 2004.
“Our success in retaining these contracts is a testament to the efforts of our staff involved in delivering a safe and reliable service, evidenced by our excellent performance statistics in these areas,” said Mark Emmerson, Harsco Rail’s managing director for the UK.
Network Rail is the owner and infrastructure manager of most of Britain’s rail network. Harsco’s program provides 24/7 service across the nation, from the north of Scotland to the south of England.
The Network Rail deal follows several other high-profile Harsco awards at home and abroad.
Last month, Harsco Rail announced it had won competitive awards for two separate contract services projects on New York area transit lines, worth approximately $10 million in projected revenues.
That came soon after it was announced that Harsco Industrial IKG has been tapped to manufacture and install over 12 miles of security fence for the new Mexico City International Airport.
