Ground broken in Central Pa. on first Chipotle ‘Habanero’ concept

Ground was broken today on a new Chipotle Mexican Grill location in Central Pennsylvania.

The location at Shepherdstown Crossing in Mechanicsburg is the first “Habanero” concept Chipotle restaurant in Pennsylvania.

The new restaurant is developed by Linlo Properties and being built by Keller Contracting. According to a release, it represents an updated design concept for Chipotle that focuses on improving the customer experience and increasing efficiency for digital and mobile ordering.

“Projects like this highlight the continued growth and energy in the Mechanicsburg area,” Linlo Properties President Lowell Gates said in a statement. “We’re excited to help bring this next[1]generation Chipotle design to Central Pennsylvania.”

The Habanero concept features a modern interior design, updated materials and textures, and a reimagined layout designed to create a more inviting atmosphere, per the release. The restaurant will also incorporate operational improvements such as dedicated pickup areas, including a drive-thru, and optimized kitchen layouts to support the growing demand for online and mobile orders.

While the Habanero concept introduces new design elements and operational efficiencies, the core Chipotle menu, ingredients, and food preparation methods will remain the same.

The project is expected to bring economic benefits to the region. A typical Chipotle restaurant creates approximately 30–50 local jobs and generates an estimated $3 million in annual sales, contributing to ongoing economic activity in the surrounding community.

Construction of a new Chipotle restaurant typically represents an investment of $1 million to $1.8 million, supporting local contractors, suppliers, and development efforts. The Mechanicsburg location will be part of Shepherdstown Crossing, located at the intersection of Gettysburg Pike and South Market Street.

Representatives from Linlo Properties, Keller Contracting, and Chipotle Mexican Grill participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
