Merisotis is nearing the finish line on a deal to sell the building at 121 W. High St. that George’s Pizza has called home since 1958. Carlisle developers Steve Capone and Christopher Rice are purchasing the building and will lease the space back to Merisotis.
The sale will net Capone/Rice five apartments on the second floor. Merisotis declined to reveal the purchase price, but he said George’s customers will notice few changes.
“It’ll make our parking lot a little bit smaller,” he said.
“We negotiated a lease that gives us options for renewals. The new owners are going to build out the apartments and rent those out to Dickinson College students or professors.”
Merisotis posted a sign in the window of the pizza shop explaining that his mother, Grace, is ill with cancer. The sale will free up capital for the family to juggle its expenses, he explained.
His father, George Merisotis, ran George’s for many years until he died. The shop is known for its Carlisle memorabilia and hundreds of pictures adorning the walls.
Things have changed in the years since his father ran the business, Merisotis said.
“The town has gone from an industrial production town into a service industry town,” he said. “The factories that were our bread and butter are all but gone. Thank God for Dickinson College and Dickinson School of Law and the War College.”
