Garden Spot Communities to open apartments in Harrisburg tower

‘s will open 39 active adult apartments at 112 Market Street, converting historic tower into for those ages 55 and over.

Based in , Garden Spot Communities on Tuesday announced a joint venture with Harristown Enterprises and Select Capital Commercial Properties (SCCP) to convert the historic early 1900s eight-story, 50,000 square feet former office tower at 112 Market Street into 39 independent living apartments.

“We are excited to expand our mission to create vibrant community for into Harrisburg and are honored to partner with Harristown Enterprises and Select Capital Commercial Properties to make this vision a reality,” Garden Spot Communities CEO Steve Lindsey said in a statement.

According to a release, the project will include a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments designed for Active Adults ages 55 and over. Construction began in early June and will take about one year to complete. Garden Spot Communities will master lease the entire building and will oversee leasing the apartments to future tenants, per the release.

Views of the Susquehanna River will be available from many of the apartments. The complex will offer residents amenities including storage units, a pet washing area, community gathering spaces and meeting rooms.

“This is a spectacular location near the Riverfront for this unique project and we look forward to showcasing this wonderful new apartment complex with our partners at Garden Spot to highlight the many assets of living in ,” said Harristown President and CEO Brad Jones.

The total project cost, including acquisition, is about $10 million. AP Williams is serving as general contractor and By Design as architect. Mid-Penn Bank will provide financing for the project.
