Catherine Hershey Schools names first executive director
Early childhood education expert Senate Alexander was chosen by the Milton Hershey School to lead its new Catherine Hershey Schools as its first executive director.
Catherine Hershey School is a $350 million program to build learning centers for children under 5 and offer support to their families such as job skills. The first of the six announced learning centers is scheduled to be built on the MHS campus by spring 2023.
Alexander has more than 15 years of leadership experience in education, nonprofit management and strategic growth planning. He graduated from MHS in 2006.
The MHS alumnus previously acted as executive director of Rosslyn Children’s Center, a nonprofit organization in Arlington, Virginia, and as regional director of operations at Columbia Academy in Maryland, where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of four preschools, according to MHS.
“We are thrilled to welcome Senate back to Hershey, this time as executive director of Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning,” said Pete Gurt, president Milton Hershey School and Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning. “Senate will build out our new early childhood education initiative, something we are all excited and eager to collaborate on. I can’t imagine a better leader and partner for this new endeavor, as we help young children from poverty begin their journeys to reach their fullest potential.”
CHS opened its central administrative office at 1840 Fishburn Road this spring and is currently hiring for a number of roles including program curriculum director, operations director, human resources manager and more.
