Winston-Salem, N.C.-based BB&T announced Friday it will close the branches as part of a consolidation strategy it announced during the acquisition of National Penn, which was based in Allentown.

National Penn operated five branches in Lancaster County, and BB&T spokesman David White said four of them will be closed, with their business shifted to nearby BB&T branches. The branches are:

• 3540 Old Philadelphia Pike, Leacock Township, shifting to 3433 Old Philadelphia Pike.
• 301 W. Main St., New Holland, shifting to 693 W. Main St.
• 720 E. Main St., Mount Joy, shifting to 749 E. Main St.
• 1298 Georgetown Road, Bart Township, shifting to 301 W. Fourth St., Quarryville (previously announced).

The one National Penn branch that will remain open as a BB&T branch is at 100 Historic Drive in Strasburg.

White said there will be no job losses at any of the branches, as all jobs will be merged into the consolidated branches.

The consolidations are expected to take place when all National Penn branches and operations are converted to BB&T, which is expected to happen in mid-July, White said. The two banks closed on the $1.8 billion acquisition on April 1.

BB&T Chairman and CEO Kelly King said last August the bank expected to close about 25 National Penn branches. White said a handful of BB&T branches elsewhere in National Penn’s footprint will be consolidated into former National Penn branches, but carry the BB&T name.

BB&T has about $220 billion in assets and trades its shares on the New York Stock Exchange at the ticker symbol BBT.
