AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan, which serves Central and Northwestern Pennsylvania, is now AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania, and AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies is now AmeriHealth Caritas.
According to a news release, the rebranding is the result of the change in ownership announced in August 2011, in which Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan joined Independence Blue Cross as co-owner of AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies.
AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania has more than 122,000 Medicaid participants, who will receive new insurance cards in the coming weeks. Their benefits, services, hospitals and providers will not change.
AmeriHealth Caritas, which began in West Philadelphia in 1982, has increased its membership by almost one-third in the past 15 months, now operating in 13 states serving more than 4.7 million Medicaid, Medicare and Children’s Health Insurance Program members through its integrated Medicaid managed care products, pharmaceutical benefit management, behavioral health and other administrative services.
